Description
GME AE4013 380mm Flexible Ground-Independent UHF CB Antenna with SO239 Connector
A 380mm flexible black heat shrink UHF CB 477MHz antenna whip from GME, the AE4013 delivers 2.1dBi gain with a ground-independent design and a built-in SO239 connector, allowing direct connection to a PL259 male plug without a separate cable. Whip only, sold individually.
Product overview
The GME AE4013 is a 380mm flexible black heat shrink UHF CB 477MHz antenna whip with 2.1dBi gain. Unlike the similar AE4005, which uses an M10 stud mount and includes a cable and PL259 plug, the AE4013 terminates with an SO239 connector, allowing direct connection to a radio's PL259 antenna plug or to a base or mounting adaptor with a PL259 male connector, without requiring a separate coaxial cable.
The ground-independent design makes it suitable for fibreglass, aluminium, and non-metallic vehicle and vessel surfaces.
Whip only. No mounting hardware, cable, or radio included.
Features and benefits
380mm flexible black heat shrink whip: A compact, flexible antenna suited to applications requiring low clearance height or impact-resistant antenna construction.
Ground-independent design: No steel vehicle body required, suitable for fibreglass, aluminium, and non-metallic surfaces.
SO239 connector: The whip terminates with a female SO239 socket, allowing direct connection to a PL259 male plug from a radio, base, or cable assembly without a separate cable.
2.1dBi gain: Standard UHF CB baseline gain with a wide vertical radiation angle.
Flexible construction: Resists impact damage and bends on contact rather than breaking.

Frequently asked questions
How does the AE4013 differ from the AE4005?
Both are 380mm flexible black heat shrink ground-independent UHF CB antennas with 2.1dBi gain. The key difference is the connector and installation method. The AE4005 uses an M10 stud mount drilled through the vehicle surface and includes a 4.5m cable and PL259 plug, a complete through-hole installation. The AE4013 terminates with an SO239 socket and is a whip only, connecting directly to a PL259 connector on an existing base, cable assembly, or radio, without requiring a cable.
What does the SO239 connector on the AE4013 allow?
SO239 is the standard female UHF coaxial socket that accepts a PL259 male plug. The AE4013's built-in SO239 allows the whip to be connected directly to a radio with a PL259 antenna output, a coaxial cable assembly terminating in PL259, or a base or mounting adaptor with a PL259 male output. This is useful when the antenna needs to be interchangeable or directly swappable without a permanent cable.
Why is the AE4013 ground independent when others at similar specs are ground dependent?
The ground independence comes from the antenna's internal design. The AE4013 uses an elevated-feed or built-in counterpoise construction that generates its own effective ground plane, rather than relying on the vehicle body. This design choice makes it suitable for non-metallic surfaces and mounting positions where vehicle body ground is not available.
Is a cable, mounting hardware, or radio included with the AE4013?
No. The AE4013 is a whip only with the SO239 connector at its base. No cable, mounting bracket, M10 hardware, or radio is included. The SO239 end connects directly to a compatible PL259 connector, so no additional cable is needed for installations where the PL259 is already accessible.
What is flexible construction and why does it matter for the AE4013?
The flexible whip is constructed from rubber or a flexible composite material rather than rigid stainless steel. Flexible antennas deflect on contact with branches, overheads, or obstructions and return to their normal position, where a rigid stainless whip might snap. This is particularly valuable for off-road, bush driving, and tight-clearance environments.
