Ultra-Strong Dust Cap With Foamed Acrylic Polymer These latest subwoofers feature a newly-developed dust cap, which boasts far greater strength, yet barely any increase in weight. This is made possible by the use of Foamed Acrylic Polymer sandwiched between carbon-fiber and glass-cloth layers. Foamed Acrylic Polymer is lightweight, but still offers outstanding heat resistance and much greater compressive strength than conventional foam materials — up to approximately 36 times greater than Carbon Fiber blended paper, depending on the angle of force. Foamed Acrylic Polymer also gives the dust cap durability to match its tremendous strength. Titanium Voice Coil Former (Bobbin) With up to 6000 watts running through the voice coil, an exceptionally strong former is required. Pioneer now uses Titanium, one of the strongest materials available. The result is 565% stronger than the former design. Dual Voice Coil TS-W5102SPL now features two 2 ohm voice coils. This design offers you the flexibility of turning it into either a 1-ohm sub (voice coils connected in parallel), an 4-ohm sub (connected in a series), or powering the voice coils separately (dual 4 ohm loads). Aramid Fiber Interlaced Injection Molded Polypropylene (IMPP) Polypropylene (PP) is a tough thermoplastic resin that is an ideal material for a subwoofer cone Рwith low mass and high damping, PP cones offer good sensitivity and low distortion. However, polypropylene cones lack the rigidity and strength required for high output and extreme low bass. To resolve this, Pioneer engineers used advanced Computer-Aided Manufacturing to develop a process to blend aramid fibers into the polypropylene resin during the injection molding process. The resulting Aramid Fiber Interlaced IMPP subwoofer cone is incredibly strong and low mass with high rigidity and superior strength to produce deep, powerful and undistorted bass. Large Diameter Voice Coil and Double Stacked Magnets A subwoofer motor structure consists of the voice coil and magnet assembly. Increasing the diameter and length of the voice coil provides greater control of the woofer cone and higher power handling.
